Bitter Sweet

Bitter Sweet

Revelations 10:10 “And I took the little book out of the angel’s hand, and ate it up; and it was in my mouth sweet as honey: and as soon as I had eaten it, my belly was bitter.”

The Word of God really tastes sweet in the mouth.  We all like to hear and read the part where the Scripture says “put all your cares on God – He will take care of you” or “those who wait upon the Lord will mount up on wings like eagles”.

We love to hear how our sins are forgiven and that death is not where everything ends.  The prospects of living eternally without any danger or sickness makes us all want to jump up and down with joy!

But, oh, how the sweet turns to bitter in our stomachs when we learn that the Bible demands us to do something; to change our ways and become Christ-like in word and deed!

One shouldn’t be deceived in believing that you will inherit all that God has promised if you don’t change – if you don’t allow the Spirit of God to change your heart and make you more and more in the likeness of the Son, Christ Jesus.

Many people call themselves Christians, but the fruit they produce proofs something totally different.  The Word says in Matthew 7:17-20 “A good tree produces good fruit, and a bad tree produces bad fruit…. So every tree that does not produce good fruit is chopped down and thrown into the fire.  Yes, just as you can identify a tree by its fruit, so you can identify people by their actions.”

Don’t be misled, dear friends; the devil didn’t come into the garden of Eden as a snake for no reason – undetected he moved between the leaves on the ground, moving closer and waiting, looking for the perfect moment before he deceived Eve into committing the worst sin of all times – disobedience to God Almighty!

It is this disobedience to our Creator, His Word and the rejection of the Spirit of Truth that still torments and deceives every person; believer and non-believer alike.  He comes with clever lies to make you believe that there are other ways of entering the kingdom of God; other than through Jesus.

Don’t be fooled, don’t be tricked – there is only one way, one doorway and that is through Jesus Christ – by rejecting this truth, you commit the very same sin as what Eve committed in the garden; disobedience.

Another lie from the pits of hell is that one can receive forgiveness and continue living in sin!  Be assured that if you do not produce the fruit of the Holy Spirit, you do not have the Holy Spirit dwelling inside of you, and if you don’t have the Holy Spirit you don’t have the Son.  The Bible makes it very clear that if you have the Son, you have eternal life, if you don’t have the Son you don’t have life.

You cannot have Jesus as you Shepherd, but still stay disobedient to Gods Word – rejecting what He commands.  Jesus commands for us to forgive each other regardless what the other person did or did not do; un-forgiveness is disobedience.

I know it makes the stomach bitter; it causes us to reflect on our lives not as we see it, or even how other perceives us, but it makes us look at our lives through the lens of the Bible, the Truth… the very Word of God.

The two questions I bring before you today will taste sweet in the mouth, but if you digest them, it will be bitter in your stomach.  And when you realize the bitter in your stomach, don’t leave it there – the Gospel is not just to be heard, it is meant to be acted upon –  put the wooden cross in the bitter waters of your stomach and it will become a well of living water springing up to eternal life!!

Question 1:  Jesus came to save us from sin – if you are still living in sin, practicing and satisfying your sinful nature, rejecting the truth and standing in complete disobedience to the Word of God – how can you be saved?

Question 2: According to who’s word are you a Christian, your own word – or according to the Word of God?

Matthew 7:21 “Not everyone who calls out to Me, “Lord! Lord!” will enter the Kingdom of Heaven.  Only those who actually do the will of my Father in heaven will enter.”

Don’t be misled by the world and the deceiving lies of the serpent – make sure every day that you are part of Gods Kingdom, washed in the blood of Christ Jesus and filled with the Holy Spirit so that when you stand at the beginning of eternity (which can come to us any day at any time, as death respects no man!) you will be filled with joy at the fact that you took heed of the warning and acted upon the Gospel of Jesus Christ by accepting Him as Lord and Saviour of your life.

If you want to make a conscious decision right now by choosing eternal life over eternal damnation, choose Jesus Christ and turn your back on this world with all the sinful pleasures it offers.

If you are uncertain about your salvation – if you call yourself a Christian but find yourself living in direct contrast to what the Word of God demands, humble yourself before Christ Jesus and accept His forgiveness and His life over yours, turn your back on your old way of life – He will renew you and guide you and teach you in all truth.

There is not a more dangerous place for a person to be than in a place where one believes you don’t need forgiveness.  All have sinned and are far removed from the Majesty of God, the only way to cross that bridge is through the cross where Jesus hanged and died for your sins.

Do you fall into one of the categories mentioned above? If so, there where you are right now, go down on your knees, humble yourself, let go of your heart, let go of your fear and accept Jesus into your life!

If you want you can pray this prayer:

Heavenly Father, Creator of all that is – according to Your Word, You are called the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob; I believe You to be the only true and living God!  Please forgive me my sins; all the wrongs that I have done, but most of all – my non-believe.  I was disobedient, I did not believe and I didn’t listen to You or Your Word (Your Son), Jesus Christ  – but now I know; I’ve been missing something in my life.  I’ve been missing a relationship with You, my Creator!

I know that nothing I can do or accomplish here on earth can earn Your forgiveness – there are no works, no amount of money – absolutely nothing that I can do to put myself in right standing with You – it is by Your grace only; by what You have done for me in Christ Jesus, Your Son.  He is the only way, the only truth, the only life.

Lord Jesus, I pray humbly that You will come into my life.  Cleanse me from all my past sins and disobedience with Your precious Blood that You poured out for me on the cross of Calvary.  I make a commitment today, at this very moment, to follow, worship and live for You only.  I regard my own life as loss and look to You for new life.  The blood that You poured out to the forgiveness of my sins signifies the new covenant between me and the LORD God Almighty.  Lord Jesus, It is through what You have done that I now can start a new life in the favour of God the Father – it is by what You have done that I now can call my Creator: ‘ABBA Father’!!

Lord Jesus, please fill me with the Holy Spirit so that I can walk this new life as a born again Christian.  Holy Spirit of God, thank You for filling me with Your presence, Your cleansing flow, Your wisdom, Your guidance, Your truth and Your strength.  I make a pledge that as from this very moment I will not rely on my own understanding of things, my own perception or views of events, not even my own ideas of what the Bible teaches, but I will fully and totally rely on You for guidance on everything that surrounds me.

I put my life, my faith and my trust completely in Your hands, my LORD and my God!

AMEN
